Hey guys

Just posted a drum audition for you to consider.I have made
it a little heavier in the bottom end to beef it up a bit...hope you
dont mind..you did say you wanted "balls to the walls" LOL
The midi hats aren't great so it may give a better feel if they are replaced with real hats later...see what you think.
I also played with the guitar sounds as the distorted parts still seemed very harsh to me but these fx are only an experiment.
Cheers

Re: (Alt. Rock) Crash (Bass, and Drums)
Hey guys
Just uploaded a quick laptop mix of all the parts so
far...sounds and edits are all fluid so don't panic if you hear
something odd
I held back the bass and keys start and the keys in
the second verse on this mix as I felt it gave a logical build but all
will depend on the vocal shape
I also dropped all but the drums and bass out at the second middle I think it sounds effective see what you think.
I recon the next step is vocals and then we should approach and guitar jockey for some guitar strangling LOL
Parry,I
think the piano is making this track rather more mellow than perhaps
you originally intended but I recon it sounds so good that it should
def be used
Cheers

WOW aren't time zones a wonderful thing...every time I wake up you guys have been working away...great stuff
OK...
Parry
please dont get hung up on the sounds you hear ATM I haven't even
started mixing and all I have done is slapped some presets on for
effect. It may have been better to leave everything raw at this stage so
not to confuse things...what you hear is not what you get LOL.
That being said there is a very slight lack of sweetness in your lead part so it would be nice to have it again.
With
regards to the sounds you have there please bear in mind that even if
an instrument sounds great on it's own it may not sit well in the mix
(great kid...doesn't play well with others LOL)so sounds would have to
be modified even if only slightly.
I like the guitar melody in the
verse and I think another piano part may be a little heavy but there
would be no harm in having one in the armoury just in case...thinking
about it, it might be nice to switch to a piano melody on the outro and
drop down to a real mellow feel(post crash so to speak)...
I also
like Kenny's guitar parts and dont worry about the noise too much I
visually edit to cut noise between phrases and a bit of rattle and hum
is a good thing.
OK SO I NEED SEPS FOR
1) Parry's new guitar parts
2) Parry's Guide Vocal(or complete)
3) Kenny's guitar parts
4) Alternate lead piano line
I have uploaded a NO GUITAR mix
Cheers guys well done

Ok Guys
Just posted a ruff mix of the kinda direction I'm headed in
Please bear in mind this is just a laptop mix as I haven't taken it into the studio yet
I
have reused Kenny's lead at the end of the song and edited it for
variation but if you like it there it may be an idea to record a fresh
end solo....see what you think
Cheers

Ok Guys
Lets try and tackle your points
1)Kenny..there are several points where I need to tighten the timing. I can hear where you mean.
2)I haven't applied any autotune as yet. Parry ..I'm no expert but you may have a slight intonation problem as your melodic verse parts are still sounding a little off....I should be able to sweeten them this end but I need to be in the studio.
3)I think a lead guitar at the end would work under the vocal however it would be better if Kenny played a fresh sympathetic part ...just an idea.
4)I can take the final lead line off...I added it so the track didn't just drift out
5)Kennys distorted guitar isn't under that verse as he didn't play there...it can be added
6)Parry's first vocal chorus can be used throughout if you feel it's the best one.
7)I have used the best of your tracks Parry..there is still a little bit of clipping/distortion but I have reduced it with notched eq.
I think that's it...I will post an update when I have taken this to the studio

Ok hold up
Before we go off the rails and end up with another Amy situation.
I
am posting another mix with the cut/paste chorus and no lead guitar at
the end.I have also applied a few timing tweaks and I suggest we wait
until I get into the studio and tweak a bit more before jumping the
gun.I have certainly heard worse vocals than Parry's....er mine for
instance LOL.
Parry if you get a chance could you try your lead
melody guitar on an acoustic recorded by mic straight into the comp....
it might be effective.
Cheers

Bl**dy H*ll this is a STONKA
Ok that's out of my system ...........
I have been in the studio at long last and have been listening at the volume this track deserves HA!
I have good news and bad news..I have sweetened Parry's vocal with the dreaded autotune....it now sounds spot on to me.
I couldn't do anything with either of the guitar lead parts. Both Parry's and Kenny's seem to clash with the piano.I think the main problem is the "A" drone note or maybe it is just too busy but both sound off.So.........I have put a "temp" simplified guitar part up played by drummer fingers so it's not great.
as a matter of interest I will post a couple of files showing the problems but I think Parry should still try an acoustic part again simplified.
My first impression listening on small speakers again is that I may have put a tad too much reverb in the vox ...see what you think.

Hi Kenny
Glad you like the vocal treatment I think they work really well now.
My simplified guitar line is not particularly tight and is only intended as a demo....I'm still not sure what is clashing on the other tracks...could be just too busy.Even with the simplified line there is still a bit of a clash at times...lets see what Parry comes up with.
I look forward to the end solo it's nice to have options.

Re: (Alt. Rock) Crash (Bass, and Drums)
Ok...I went missing from work this morning.......
The version I have posted has Parry's acoustic on the intro...it sounds fine there before the keys start....I have my simplified acoustic running as a theme behind the keys....if you want to play it yourself Parry I have no problem with dropping my guitar but it must be the simple line as I believe the full part will always clash with the piano...the parts are too similar.....I have moved the shouts to their original position so they should sit as you wanted them Parry..see what you think....I have dropped Kenny's lead outro in place....it works well but I may shorten it to just the second half for end impact...haven't made up my mind on that as yet....If you want to keep my guitar part then I would have to eq to get a closer match to Parry's original .... and I think I am a bit late on one of the notes but that can be tweaked....I'm getting picky now.....these thing would have to be done in the studio next week.
All food for thought and I must start some work now or I'll never get away tonight for my weekend away.Have a listen guys and give me your thoughts....may check in later.
Cheers Ian

Re: (Alt. Rock) Crash (Bass, and Drums)
OK spent a bit of time on it
1)Nudged the shouts forward and generally worked on the vocal timing.
2)Adjusted my guitar tone to match Parry's (more work to do)and tightened up the playing.
3)Gave Kenny's dist guitar a bit more kick
4)Went back to shorter end solo as it feels better in the mix...it now resolves the track nicely.
5)End fade adjusted
6)Worked on intro guitar and drum postioning
I need to get into the studio before I can do anymore....see what you think

Hi Parry
I will have a look at possible fx when I get into the studio next...I also want to look at possible atmospheric synths but it's important not to over cook it.
Glad you like it so far
